The LCpl Matthew R. Rodriguez Playground
The LCpl Matthew R. Rodriguez Playground, which opened at the New Bedford Regional Airport in November 2013, provides a hands-on learning experience for children 2-12 years old.
The playground’s design maximizes the play value for all children, both handicapped and able bodied, with several ground level activity panels. It also includes its very own air traffic control tower with lookouts, 2 slides and real wind socks!
The building of the playground was near and dear to the Rodriguez family. Lisa, Matthew’s mother, is vice president of the Atlantic Aviators organization and Playground Committee chairwoman. Matthew spent lots of time at the airport and helped with the fundraising efforts for the playground. One dear memory Matthew’s nieces hold close to their heart is the time they spent playing with Uncle Matt at various playgrounds.
The LCpl Matthew R. Rodriguez Foundation will assist the Atlantic Aviators organization in maintaining the working order of the playground.
